Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior political figure commented the attack left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
